An Explanation of Adobe Photoshop in Thirty Little Icons

Updated: May 1, 2019

For this post, you will

1. explain what Photoshop is

2. explain why it is useful to have Photoshop skills

3. explain the pictured 29 tools in the toolbar along with the Photoshop Icon

After doing these steps, show a before and after enhancement of a photo you have enhanced and explain what you did there

The idea of this post is to show off your knowledge of Photoshop, as well as your ability to present that knowledge both concisely and winsomely.

1. The MOVE tool.

The most basic tools in Photoshop can do much more than users first realize. The Move tool, for example, can seem to be obviously simple. But it can actually do a lot. It can interact with any layer or object in your .PSD (that's the suffix for 'Photoshop Document', and functions much like an actual cutter or pointer that you'd use by hand to move things around on your desktop.

You name it, any object that’s identifiable within the Photoshop interface can be adjusted by the Move tool — Text boxes, Selections, Pasted objects, Entire layers... You can even move elements from one Photoshop document to another with both windows open. It’s a simple drag-and-drop process. And it's so essential, the Move tool is the only Photoshop tool that can be used even when it’s not selected in the tool bar. Moving on...

2. The Rectangular MARQUEE tool.

The Rectangular marquee tool is the first tool in the left side of photoshop. The icon looks like a rectangle or square outlined by a - - - - dashed line. It is very helpful for copying and pasting. For this, first select the picture, then click move tool. Then press shift + alter then move with mouse and when you leave the move copied picture will be paste. For a helpful introduction to this tool, click on Mr. Pig and the bird.

3. The Polygonal LASSO tool.

The Polygonal Lasso Tool...

and a very long post later...

An Illustration of just what PHOTOSHOP know-how can do...

Now that I've explained all the tools to the point of overwhelming yourself, here is a project where I enhanced a picture using the software. If you'll notice the trashcan here next to Blondie. I am writing two paragraphs showing off my digital prowess!

And in my excellent final blog post, I have also proven I can insert pictures with links into my entries. It's been a lot to learn in a quick semester.

Add a caption to hype your own before and after example

You now have to go back, and create your 27 more original descriptions as well as your before- and after- material.
